Art & Design: Lecturer in Photography (60%) Sabbatical Replacement

POSITION: A part-time (60%), instructional academic staff position with an emphasis in Photography is available in the Department of Art & Design for the 2024-2025 academic year beginning August 19, 2024.  The official title is Lecturer.  This is a one-year appointment with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s in Fine Arts (MFA) is required from a regionally accredited institution with a preference in the area of Photography and evidence of current activity as a practicing artist such as an exhibition record.  The following will be considered assets:  evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level beyond graduate teaching assistant; Demonstrated commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of students, faculty, and staff.

DUTIES: We seek a dedicated individual with strong skills in photography and video who is capable of opening our students’ minds to innovative thinking, creative applications, and developing visual concepts. Specifically, the lecturer will teach three courses (the equivalent of 9 credits) each semester as assigned.  These will include a mix of lecture and studio classes, including Art 281: Intro to Photography as an Art Form, ART: 382 Contemporary Directions in Photography, ART 383: Video for Art & Design, and ARTH 385: Photography: History and Theory. In addition to knowledge of the history, theory, and contemporary practice of fine art photography, expertise in darkroom techniques and studio lighting, the ability to teach art foundations classes, and the integration of photography with other art media are considered a plus.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Art & Design consists of nineteen faculty and staff. There are approximately 210 majors. It offers the following programs: Bachelor of Fine Arts, BA/BS in Studio Art and Graphic Communications, and Liberal Arts BA/BS in Studio Art. The department offers minors in studio art and art history. Design courses are also part of the Multimedia Communication minor. The Department houses the Ruth Foster Art Gallery, maintains a woodshop and a finishing lab, and is developing a fabrication lab.
