Biology: Visiting Assistant Professor in Cell Biology and Genetics

POSITION: The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Department of Biology invites enthusiastic applicants for an instructional academic staff position of Visiting Assistant Professor (official title: Lecturer) for the 2024-2025 academic year to begin August 19, 2024. We seek candidates with expertise in cell biology/genetics or related areas. 

QUALIFICATIONS: At minimum, a Master's degree in Cell Biology/Genetics (or a related area) is required from an accredited institution. Candidates must be work-authorized in the United States. Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates is highly desired. Demonstrated commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of students, faculty, and staff is an asset. 

DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of 15 contact hours during the fall and spring semesters in Foundations of Biology I (introduction to cell biology, genetics, evolution, and microbiology), Genetics Inquiry (lab/discussion course involving methods of genetic and genomic analysis), and/or Molecular and Cell Biology (current concepts in molecular/cell biology).  Opportunities to teach additional courses may be available depending on the candidate's specific area of expertise. Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience and qualifications.

THE UNIT: The Department of Biology currently has 15 faculty, 3 instructors, a lab manager, a greenhouse/animal care manager, and approximately 600 Biology majors including 100 Biochemistry/Molecular Biology majors. Department members are dedicated to teaching and are actively involved in research with undergraduates as demonstrated by co-authored presentations and publications. The Department is affiliated with the Institute for Health Sciences on campus, which is a consortium of academic departments and programs that support the advancement and visibility of the preprofessional and professional health science programs. 

Departmental facilities include a variety of teaching and research laboratories, standard cell and molecular instrumentation, equipment and facilities for cell culture, gel and blot documentation systems, a real-time PCR system, and shared access to conventional and confocal fluorescence microscopes and transmission and scanning electron microscopes. In addition, we have three greenhouses and an animal care facility. Research is supported by both external and internal grants, and we participate in the Ronald McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. Internal funds are also available to support faculty and student travel to professional meetings.
