What will I do with a women's studies degree?

It's no secret that the current economic climate begs the question "what can I do with this degree?" for anyone considering the investment in a four-year degree. It's a question worth asking, and for students of women's studies, the answer is "a variety of jobs too broad to describe."

Typical positions held by women’s studies graduates include those in social work, community advocacy, governmental and non-profit agencies, health care education, editing and writing for women’s publications, small business, research assistantships in graduate programs, community outreach programs and other programs requiring experience working with women as well as other diverse populations. Find recent alumni in places like:

  • Eau Claire Country District Attorney's office
  • Peace Corps volunteer, Cameroon, West Africa
  • Family Support Center, Chippewa Falls, director
  • Planned Parenthood, organizing fellow
  • WEAU-TV 13, reporter, producer, anchor
  • American Baby magazine, editorial office
  • UW-Eau Claire admissions counselor
  • University of NC-Greensboro, master's in gender studies
  • UC-Santa Cruz, Ph. D. in sociology
  • HR management, Target Corporation
  • Arizona State University, Ph. D. in gender studies
  • Deschutes County Oregon, reproductive health educator

As a public health nurse I am able to look at how systems and intersectionality impact the health of individuals and populations. I am able to deliberately address health inequities and work toward eliminating them. These skills help me serve the community better and are made possible because of my women’s studies education.
