UW-Eau Claire accounting students will once again provide free income tax return preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a special program of the IRS and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. To qualify for the service, clients must have incomes of $54,000 or less.
The College of Business offers free tutoring to students taking accounting, business communication and information systems classes. This tutoring is available to students of all abilities; in fact, it is not unusual to see many of our best students taking advantage of these services.
Dr. Timothy Vaughan will serve as interim dean of UW-Eau Claire's College of Business following the June 30 retirement of current dean Diane Hoadley.
Commencement exercises for UW-Eau Claire students will be held May 21 in Zorn Arena. Candidates from the College of Business will receive degrees during a 9 am ceremony. Remote-site live broadcasts of the ceremonies will be presented in the Davies Center Woodland Theater and the Ojibwe Grand Ballroom. The ceremony may also be viewed online.
Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor society for financial information students and professionals, held its spring initiation on May 6 at a reception held in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Davies Center Centennial Room. The honor society promotes the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems, provides opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encourages a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.
Maria Camila Bedoya, a third year student from Rochester, MN, has been named the 2016 College of Business Emerging Leader. She is double majoring in account and information systems. Bedoya will be recognized at the 2016 University Student Excellence Awards reception on Thursday, May 5 at 5 pm in the Davies Center Ojibwe Ballroom, Room 330. The reception is hosted by the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association, UW-Eau Claire Foundation, and UW-Eau Claire University Centers.
Twenty-six business students will be initiated into the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The annual initiation will be held Saturday, April 30 at 3 pm in the Cargill Collaboration Center, Schneider Hall Room 203. Ingrid Ullstad, senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance, will be recognized as the 2016 Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding professor.
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business Scholarship Committee has awarded over $30,000 to business students for the 2016-17 academic year. Additional scholarships are also available to business students through the Accounting & Finance Department, Business Communication Program, Health Care Administration Program, Information Systems Department, and Management & Marketing Department. All business scholarships are funded by gifts made through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

Lawrence Ozzello died August 9, 2015. Larry, who was also known as "Oz" or "Dr. O" taught accounting at UW-Eau Claire for 36 years and was the chair of the department for 26 years of those years.
