The College of Business Scholarship Committee awarded over $29,000 in college-wide scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year. Additional scholarships are given by the college's departments and academic programs, bringing the total amount of business scholarships awarded to nearly $120,000.
Thirty-seven accounting students completed 803 tax returns for free during the 2016 tax season as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Blugolds are in demand. For the third consecutive year, more than 96 percent of UW-Eau Claire’s most recent graduates reported having jobs in their field or enrolling in graduate programs within six months of graduation, according to the university’s First Destination survey. Even more impressive? The growing number of UW-Eau Claire graduates who land their first job well before commencement. Nearly 70 percent of 2015-16 Blugolds already had jobs before graduation, a number that has climbed steadily since 2012-13 when it was at 55 percent.

Accounting and finance lecturer Mark Alfuth decided to try something new during the 2017 Winterim session. Instead of reading from a textbook and attending daily lectures, the students enrolled in Alfuth's "Wealth Management" class engaged with a variety of experts from Ameriprise. Alfuth and the financial planning services company created a partnership to offer students real-world expertise and experience.

UW-Eau Claire accounting students will once again provide free income tax return preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a special program of the IRS and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. To qualify for the service, clients must have incomes of $54,000 or less.

Dr. Timothy Vaughan will serve as interim dean of UW-Eau Claire's College of Business following the June 30 retirement of current dean Diane Hoadley.
Commencement exercises for UW-Eau Claire students will be held May 21 in Zorn Arena. Candidates from the College of Business will receive degrees during a 9 am ceremony. Remote-site live broadcasts of the ceremonies will be presented in the Davies Center Woodland Theater and the Ojibwe Grand Ballroom. The ceremony may also be viewed online.
Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor society for financial information students and professionals, held its spring initiation on May 6 at a reception held in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Davies Center Centennial Room. The honor society promotes the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems, provides opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encourages a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.
Maria Camila Bedoya, a third year student from Rochester, MN, has been named the 2016 College of Business Emerging Leader. She is double majoring in account and information systems. Bedoya will be recognized at the 2016 University Student Excellence Awards reception on Thursday, May 5 at 5 pm in the Davies Center Ojibwe Ballroom, Room 330. The reception is hosted by the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association, UW-Eau Claire Foundation, and UW-Eau Claire University Centers.
