Influenza (flu) is on the rise nationwide, statewide, and in our community. The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness with potentially life-threatening complications. Because a person can spread the flu before they have symptoms, it is important for everyone to take an active role in protecting themselves and others. Health officials offer these tips for protection:
Get a flu shot --- it is not too late! Flu shots are still available at Student Health Service.
Cover your coughs and sneezes.
Wash your hands frequently.
If you are sick, stay home.
Avoid close contact with sick people.
If you think you may have the flu, call Student Health Service to make an appointment.
