E. Louise Carter Scholarship

Amounts of scholarship vary from year to year. The 2016-17 Academic Year Scholarship award was $2,300.

(Please note: The Committee may choose to award the amount to two individuals.)



  • Candidates preferably would be junior, senior, or graduate students. Nontraditional aged students, returning to school after an interruption in their education, are preferred.
  • Preference for students planning a career in social work, psychology, nursing, or other helping professions with career plans involving counseling or recovery efforts for people with problems with alcohol, substance abuse or eating disorders.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing to be eligible for the award, with indications of a promising and successful career in counseling.
  • Preference for students showing financial need.

*Scholarship recipients may apply for award renewal by submitting an application in subsequent years.

All applications with two letters of recommendation must be submitted electronically to:

APPLICATION DEADLINE - on or before April 10, 2017.

Recipients of the E. Louise Carter Scholarship will be reviewed by the Selection Committee, chaired by Laura Chellman, Interim Director of Counseling Services based upon the noted criteria above.

The recipient will be selected by the end of the spring semester and notified the first week of May.

The recipient will receive written notification by the chair of the Selection Committee, Laura Chellman, Interim Director of Counseling Services, who will also complete and submit a "Scholarship Award Form" to the Financial Aid office.

James C. Carter has established the E. Louise Carter Scholarship in honor of his mother. The recipients are highly encouraged to send a thank you letter highlighting their career plans and goals to James C. Carter, E. Louise Carter Scholarship, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, Schofield 216.
