Hannah Temes, of Genoa, Illinois, is a senior studying Political Science Legal Studies. Hannah plans to earn her Ph.D. in Political Science to further research how people develop their political opinions online and how that impacts their political behavior.
Under the supervision of her mentor Damir Kovačević, Hannah conducts research into fringe conspiracy theories online and how they spread. Her project “The Rise of Q-Anon: From a Chatroom Board to an International Movement” combines political and computer science by tracking the spread of QAnon online through web scraping tweets with key phrases, looking at the date and location those tweets were posted, and cross-referencing them with what was in the news at the time.
