UW-Eau Claire to offer Blugold Card on iPhone, Apple Watch and Android phones

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students, faculty and staff can now add their Blugold Card to Apple or Google Wallet and use their iPhones, Apple Watches or Android phones for contactless access to campus buildings and for campus transactions.

With the Blugold Mobile ID Card, Blugolds can complete any action that would have previously required a physical ID card — both on and off campus — with just their iPhone, Apple Watch or Android phone. Users can simply place their device near a reader to enter a building or make a transaction.

UW-Eau Claire is excited to be the first UW System school to bring Mobile Credentials to campus,” says Dan Drumm, information specialist in University Centers at UW-Eau Claire. “Students will love the convenience in all aspects of their campus lives because they always have their phones handy.”

The move from a physical Blugold Card to a contactless credential on iPhone, Apple Watch or Android devices will provide safe and secure transactions with the convenience of mobile technology. UW-Eau Claire can also issue school IDs remotely without the need to see students in person — or print and mail physical cards, creating a safer, more cost-effective and more environmentally friendly process.

The Blugold Mobile ID on iPhone, Apple Watch or Android phones is protected by two-factor authentication to ensure that only the student can access their own account, even if someone else knows their device password.

“As a proud alumna of UW-Eau Claire, it is particularly satisfying to have the Transact connected experience delivering convenience and security to Blugold students and staff,” said Nancy Langer ’85, CEO of Transact Campus. “The addition of Mobile Credential to the Blugold system will provide security and convenience to campus life. I look forward to visiting the campus again soon to hear more from users about their experience with Transact solutions.”

UW-Eau Claire student Joseph Dokken says he is excited to see the mobile ID cards rolled out at UW-Eau Claire. “I am looking forward to the ability to not worry about where my card is and be able to have access to anything on campus that requires a Blugold ID by the touch of a button on my smartphone,” Dokken says. “This is yet another great step that the university is taking to make the campus experience more enjoyable and stress free.”

To set up their Blugold Mobile ID, students must download the eAccounts app, authenticate with their university credentials and then add their Blugold Card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
