Collegiate DECA members win big at state

Hard work and determination paid off for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Collegiate DECA members who attended the 2020 Collegiate DECA Wisconsin Spring Conference and Case Study Competition held on March 5-7 in Delvan, WI 

Nine UW-Eau Claire students were top 3 finalists in their categories thus qualifying to attend the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, GA, which was unfortunately canceled due to COVID-19.

Congratulations to the following students:

  • Morgan Welsh, a junior marketing major from Mount Views, MN, placed first in Retail Management.

  • Noah Cipar, a freshman undeclared major from Medford, WI, and Hannah Deyoung, a junior music major from Mosinee, WI, placed second in Event Planning. Teammates Lindsey Coonen, a senior biology and chemistry major from Waukesha, WI and Jamie Leatherman, a junior management major from Amherst, WI, placed third in the event.

  • Jessica Buytendorp, a sophomore management major from Cottage Grove, MN and Alexis Brueggen, a sophomore business administration major from West Salem, WI, placed first in the B2B Marketing competition.  While teammates Kayla Ament, a senior marketing major from Merrill, WI and Nick Lunde, a senior marketing major from St. Croix Falls, WI, finished second in the event. 

Eight additional Collegiate DECA members also qualified for the international conference.

Congratulations to the following students:

  • Corporate Finance: Grant Shaffer, a junior finance major from Farmington, MN and Mason Peterson, a sophomore international business major from Rosemount, MN.      
  • Marketing Management: Elizabeth Grenzow, a sophomore international business major from Monroe, WI and Abby Tennies, a senior marketing analytics major from Slinger, WI.       
  • Restaurant and Food Service Management: Ryan Noseworthy, a sophomore accounting major from Mendota Heights, MN and Alex Johnson, a freshman accounting major from Elkhorn, WI.
  • Sports and Entertainment Marketing: Logan Jacobson, a junior marketing major from Eau Claire, WI and Sam Finnerty, a junior finance major from Apple Valley, MN.              

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
