CHAASE Announces Spring Banquet Speaker

James Balda, President/CEO of Argentum

Elevating Excellence: Building Future Leaders is the theme of the 2020 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Center for Health Care Administration and Aging Services Excellence (CHAASE) Spring Banquet. The event will be held Thursday, April 23 at The Florian Gardens, 2340 Lorch Avenue, Eau Claire, WI. Prior to dinner, The Partner Open House will be held starting at 5:00 pm, which is similar to a job or internship fair, and exposes students to organizations that hire health care administration (HCAD) students as practicum interns and full-time employees. Following the Partner open house is the social hour at 6:00pm, dinner at 7:00pm, and the program at 7:45pm.

This year's keynote speaker is James Balda, President & CEO of Argentum. Balda is responsible for the overall leadership of the association and with transforming its vision and mission to meet the changing needs of the senior living industry.

Under Balda’s direction, Argentum has successfully implemented a new and more inclusive membership model, rebranded the association to reflect the evolving landscape of the senior living industry, launched a foundational set of quality standards and developed an executive director credentialing program designed to further professionalize the senior living industry. He joined Argentum in January 2015 when the organization was known as the Assisted Living Federation of America. He spent 2015 touring the country meeting with senior living executives, policymakers, academics, and other advocates for older adults to better understand the industry’s key imperatives and to help define Argentum’s role in shaping a healthy, robust future for senior living.

Prior to his work with Argentum, Balda served in several roles at the National Restaurant Association where he was responsible for business development, product strategy, and membership. He also was charged with transforming the association’s brand, marketing and communications activities, and state partner relationships. Additionally, Balda was Senior Vice President of Membership and Professional Development at America’s Health Insurance Plans.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Maryland and lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and four children.

The price for attending the 2020 CHAASE Spring Banquet is $35 for UW-Eau Claire students; $55 per person for parents of HCAD students; and $80 per person for all other guests.
