Honors Welcomes New Assistant Director

| Rosa Gomez

UW-Eau Claire Honors students, please give a warm welcome to our new Assistant Director Kim Wellnitz!

Kim has worked at UWEC for sixteen years, most recently as an advisor in the Advising, Retention and Career Center (ARCC). With her passion for uplifting students and helping them take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way, she is the perfect addition to the Honors community.

She said that even in the beginning of her time at UW-Eau Claire, she was always interested in the Honors Program, and when she saw the job listed, she knew she had to apply.

It was the “right time, place and point in my career,” Kim said.

Kim said she always felt drawn to working with the students, staff and faculty in the Honors Program. Now that she’s here, she really emphasized that she’s looking forward to “the ability to interact with some really cool students and to learn from you all.”

Drawing on some of her skills from advising, Kim is excited to specialize in working with Honors students and providing a more holistic approach to help students get the most out of their college career.

Kim said she is really hoping to take an active approach in supporting student initiatives and playing a part in making the Honors Program even better.

Her goal is to keep the momentum going throughout our community so the program can continue to be shaped around enhancing Honors students’ academic journey and fostering student ideas and success.

“It’s your program,” Kim said, “when students have a stake in it, it’s more meaningful.”

She comes with over a decade of experience, relationships and connections that will enable her to offer meaningful advice to our students and to solve problems.

Her broad network is a resource students can and should utilize; her connection to colleagues around campus will help her to support students with varied interests, talents and ideas.

Aside from her time in the office, she enjoys spending time outside with her dog; stop by to see pictures of her beloved pooch!  Kim also is an outdoorsy person–-she loves canoeing, camping and backpacking with her partner. To get in touch with her creative side, she enjoys crocheting, knitting and cooking.

Kim is looking forward to spending more time in the library and familiarizing herself with the staff and students that hang around. Come by the Honors Lounge and introduce yourself–-her office has an “open-door policy!”
