67th Annual Juried Student Art Show

The 67th Annual Juried Student Art Show features over fifty artworks by University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students. The exhibition will be on view through November 15 and is free and open to the public. A reception and awards presentation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 6-7:30 pm.

All current University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students are invited to submit to the Juried Student Art Show's call for artwork each year. A national juror looks through submissions and choses the work that will be included in the exhibition. Along with the call for artwork, the Foster Gallery also hosts a poster competition. The winning poster is used for publicity materials to advertise the exhibition. All poster contest submissions will be on display during the reception. This exhibition highlights the strong creative research produced by UWEC students.

The juror for this year’s exhibition is Gal Cohen. Cohen is a New York City-based artist working with painting, mixed media, and printmaking. In there artist statement, Cohen writes "Based on historical/archival materials, my paintings utilize the practice of Unlearning through critical engagement with demolished historical architecture and female representation throughout (pre)history. By re-examining artifacts and images from material culture, my mixed-media paintings invite the viewers to assume subject position and participate in the process of rethinking historical discourses.” Cohen will present an artist talk on Monday, November 9, 3:00 pm in the Haas Fine Arts Center, room 101.
