McNair Featured Scholar - Meet Shantel!

Hi everyone! My name is Shantel Pierce, and I am from Minocqua, Wisconsin. Currently, I am a senior, majoring in English: Critical Studies in Literature, Film and Culture with a minor in Psychology. For my McNair research, I am exploring how the implementation of intersectional representation in the coming-of-age genre could assist its target audience with identity construction and diversity acceptance. My McNair mentor for this project is Dr. Jon Heggestad, an English professor at Davidson College in North Carolina. After graduation, I would like to pursue a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in English, to reform literary teaching practices in PreK-12 classrooms.
