Beta Alpha Psi presents donation to local elementary school

| Carrie Ottum

In October, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) president, Nick Carolfi and vice president, Matt Swenson, presented a check for $1,100, along with two cases of Kleenex, and brand new books to the students of Lakeshore Elementary at a school assembly.  Donation funds were raised at the Music in the Park event held in May that was coordinated by BAP, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Student Accounting Society student organizations.

"A lot of work went into planning and coordinating such a large scale event (Music in the Park)." said DeeAnne Peterson, BAP advisor. "I am so proud of our students.  Our chapter has adopted 'ethics' and  'equity, diversity and inclusiveness' as primary and ongoing goals of the organization.

Lakeshore Elementary is a diverse population of social, economic and, ethnic students. It covers a wide area in Eau Claire: the Third Ward, Randall Park Neighborhood, Shawtown, Mt. Washington and Skyline Drive area plus the former Lincoln Elementary school area between Cameron and Vine streets.  The school's population averages 430 students with a Free and Reduced Lunch rate of 56-60% a year, being one of the highest Free and Reduced populations in the Eau Claire Area School District.

Beta Alpha Psi Zeta Omicron Chapter is the National Honor Society for Accounting, Finance, and Information Systems. Membership in this fraternity is highly regarded among those in the financial information professions. Recruiters view membership in Beta Alpha Psi as a reflection of your involvement, motivation, and scholastic aptitude.

BAP also held a community financial literacy event on December 5th with the United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley.

In April, they are presenting Latinas in STEM II which will feature two keynote speakers from Microsoft Corporation in Seattle.  The event will be a one-day workshop for Latina middle school students in Eau Claire and Arcadia.  This will be the second time we are presenting this event due to the popularity and the impact on both the young kids and our students.

One of their goals is to provide educational opportunities to our campus community, the community at large, and future young Blugolds.
