Sales Team participates in virtual national competition

| CARRIE OTTUM

On March 28-31, UW-Eau Claire Sales Team members, Katie Folsom and Christina Zaine, took part in the sales role-play competition hosted by the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC). Folsom reached quarterfinals and Zaine ended up in the Top 25%. Folsom will be receiving a plaque for her achievement.

Erin Benck and Elijah Mutter-Schulz took part in a virtual career fair with 23 sponsors and over 1,400 participants. They also each competed in the speed selling event with 16 various corporate sponsors. Erin Benck received first place from Mohawk Industries in the event and will be receiving $150 and a plaque.

Founded in 1999 by Kennesaw State University, the NCSC is the longest-running university sales role-play competition in existence. There were 70 universities competing with 140 student competitors from some of the top sales programs in the nation. This year was unique because they changed it into a virtual sales competition for the first time by using WebEx as a video conferencing tool. The 2020 product sponsor was Gartner.

The UW-Eau Claire Sales Team represents the university at collegiate sales competitions around the United States where they compete for prizes and meet prospective employers. Team members work hard and have fun. They meet weekly for individualized coaching that develops their sales and communication skills and enhances their self-confidence. The extra hours of practice pays off—100% of all team members who report having a job prior to graduation.

The team is supported by the Department of Management and Marketing, gifts from friends and corporate sponsors, and a grant from UW-Eau Claire Blugold Commitment funds.

Any UW-Eau Claire marketing major or minor may be part of the sales team. The team is selected in the spring semester for the following academic year.  Jess Gardner, marketing and management associate lecturer, is the faculty coach for the Sales Team.
