Research in the Rotunda 2022

A research poster developed by undergraduate nursing student researchers Nicole Wolfe and Grace Neugebauer and Assistant Professor, Lorraine Smith, DNP, RN was one of the eight posters selected by Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to present at Research in the Rotunda in the Capitol on March 9, 2022

Their project, WRAP: Environmental Influences That Impact Adolescent Access to Commercial Tobacco Products is an interdisciplinary research project which explored how the local business community could influence commercial tobacco use in local adolescents. The team gathered data using an abbreviated version of the Wisconsin Retailer Assessment Program (WRAP) survey. From this data, a map of Commercial Tobacco Retailers within one mile of high schools and middle schools in Eau Claire County was prepared for the Eau Claire-City County Health Department.  Findings from the assessment data was presented to show that retailers can and do favorably influence commercial tobacco access and use in adolescents through advertising, placement, and product varieties.

Research in the Rotunda is sponsored by University of Wisconsin System and features outstanding undergraduate student researchers with their faculty advisors from across the System. They share their research findings on a variety of important topics with legislators, state leaders, UW alumni, and other supporters.
