County Materials Complex truss-signing ceremony in pictures

Philanthropists John and Carolyn Sonnentag were joined by the leaders of the Eau Claire Community Complex, UW-Eau Claire, Blugold Real Estate, Pablo Foundation, Mayo Clinic Health System and the city of Eau Claire on May 26 for a truss-signing ceremony at the County Materials Complex. The massive trusses that weigh 50,000 pounds each are being installed to support the roof of the Sonnentag Event Center.

The trusses for the Sonnentag Event Center weigh 50,000 pounds each.

Carolyn and John Sonnentag met at UW-Eau Claire more than 50 years ago. They signed their names on a truss near a heart drawn by one of the architects .

Former Eau Claire City Council president Terry Weld was among the community leaders invited to sign the trusses as a thank you for their roles in the County Materials Complex project.

UW-Eau Claire Foundation board of directors member William "Chops" Hancock enjoyed the view from the massive crane that would hoist the trusses into place.

Dan Market gave a tour of the construction site at the County Materials Complex to John and Carolyn Sonnetag and Chancellor James Schmidt.
