126 student nurses receive tuition credit for providing vaccinations
Over a hundred Blugold student nurses have provided COVID-19 vaccinations, obtaining work experience, as well as $500 tuition credit. A second opportunity for students will begin on May 23rd through August 31st to participate in clinics and earn a summer tuition credit through UW System.
Agencies or Public Health Departments where College of Nursing and Health Sciences students assisted through May 22nd, include:
- Marshfield Clinic and Health Systems both in Eau Claire and Marshfield (98 hours)
- Mayo North-West Clinic and Health System (289.5)
- Eau Claire City County Health Department (535.75)
- UWEC-Student Health Service (536.5)
- Barron County (9)

- Clark County (16)
- Ho-Chuck Nation-D 1 Community Center (6.5)
- FEMA Clinic on UWEC Campus (521.75)
These numbers reflect the minimum number of hours our students volunteered. Several students volunteered beyond the 16 hours needed for tuition credit. Linda Young, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Dean and Professor, stated, “I am so proud of everyone's contribution in whatever way, place it occurred.”
The summer $500 tuition credit will be provided to students who meet the following criteria:
- Must be enrolled in a nursing or pharmacy program at a University of Wisconsin System campus during the 2021 Summer session or Fall 2021 semester.
- Must work a minimum of 16 hours, or two days, as a COVID-19 vaccinator between May 23, 2021, and Aug. 31, 2021.
- Must have a current professional or nursing license with authorization to provide vaccination service, or coordinate with a Faculty Supervisor if not currently licensed.
