Have you ever wanted to see research in action – not just how research is done, but the real change it creates?
When you participate in research with the social work department, you will experience what it means to conduct community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) from its earliest stages through meaningful outcomes. Student-faculty collaborative research with the social work faculty is open to anyone from any discipline, from first year through graduation.
You will become part of a collaborative research team modeled after an R01-style research program, the gold standard of scientific research. You will gain hands-on experience conducting literature reviews, developing surveys and measurement tools, collecting and analyzing data, interviewing community partners, disseminating findings, and contributing to grant writing, all while working alongside peers and mentors from different disciplines and backgrounds. You will grow from a novice researcher into an experienced scholar and a mentor to others.
Students have presented their research contributions at local, regional, and national conferences such as CERCA, Research in the Rotunda hosted at the state Capitol, Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors conference, and National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
To enhance your research experience, you can choose to enroll in SW 465 Advanced Research Seminar.
