Graduation from a CSWE-accredited program is a foundational requirement for certification/licensure.

UW-Eau Claire is fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE), qualifying graduates to pursue certification/licensure.

Certification/licensure is not a requirement for certain jobs; but some employers may seek candidates who have it – giving students an added advantage to the job market.

Wisconsin Licensure

In Wisconsin, there are four types of social work certificates/licensures.

  • Certified Social Worker (CSW)
  • Advanced Practice Social Worker (CAPSW)
  • Independent Social Worker (CISW)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

CSW requires a BSW or higher; the other three require an MSW or higher degree.

Graduates of the UW-Eau Claire BSW program can choose to pursue Certified Social Worker (CSW) through the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
