The Student Success Program (SSP) is a year-long academic support program that provides first-year students with multiple avenues to connect with peers, campus resources and organizations, and opportunities to expand upon their knowledge of academic skills. Students in SSP are admitted to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire through the Student Success Program because they demonstrate the potential to succeed and may benefit from additional support as they transition to college.

Feedback from past participants indicates that the program provides a solid foundation to set students up for success during their first year at UWEC.

Program Information

  • There is no additional cost to participate in the Student Success Program.
  • There is one required course for all SSP students that taken during the fall semester.  The name of this course is Strategies for Academic Success (GEN 110).
  • GEN 110 is designed to provide students with multiple avenues for connecting with peers, campus organizations, and campus resources.
  • Students will be required to meet with their college success instructor at least three times in the spring semester to make sure they are set up for success.
  • Students will also be required to work with a team of peer educators whose goal is to share practical strategies about writing, math, and other aspects of college life, both social and academic.  Each of these peer educators will be available to meet with students on an individual basis outside of class. Tutors will be available to work with students on math and writing. Peer academic coaches will schedule meetings to discuss your knowledge of academic skills and invite students to attend campus events together.
