Intensive English Program
UW-Eau Claire offers a personalized English language learning experience in the Intensive English Program (IEP) for both international and domestic students. UW-Eau Claire’s Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed to help students to improve their English language proficiency while also gaining a cultural orientation to studying in the United States.

The program provides a comprehensive curriculum for students to focus on enhancing English language skills for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will also learn essential seminar skills for university courses at UW-Eau Claire and higher education settings.
About the program
Students can meet the English proficiency requirement at UW-Eau Claire if they successfully complete the 300 Advanced Level of the Intensive English Program. Students will need to take the English placement test to determine English proficiency for admissions requirement or for IEP placement for 200 level or 300 level ESL courses.

- 15 weeks of class instruction
- 18 clock hours of instruction per week

IEP Teaching Staff
Our IEP Teaching Staff are experienced English language educators who are committed to supporting international students to succeed academically. The IEP staff focuses on creating opportunities for students to develop intercultural communication skills while also focusing on creating a positive educational experience for English language learners and multilingual students. Our mission also includes serving as a resource for UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students who are interested in supporting international or intercultural education or teaching English to speakers of other languages.

Tom is currently the longest-serving member of the Intensive English Program, which serves international students with the need to improve their English abilities in order to be successful at UWEC.


Lee Chepil provides immigration advising support to F-1 and J-1 students at UW-Eau Claire. He also manages the Intensive English Program, the Host Friend Program, and CultureFest.
