Windows to the World LLC

This new Living Learning Community is designed for students who may be considering majors and careers in languages, political science, communication, international business, or education--or who just have a passion for learning about other cultures or world politics. The goal of this LLC is to provide context and different perspectives for viewing the world and the people living in our own communities as well as in the global community.

Living

Students in this LLC live in Oak Ridge Hall.

Learning

Students living in this community have the unique opportunity to select from one of two First Year Experience (FYE) courses: POLS 291: Democracy and Authoritarianism in the 21^st Century (taught by Dr. Damir Kovačević) or IDIS 291: Culture in Action: Meeting the World on Campus and Beyond (taught by Dr. Kaishan Kong). Dr. Kovačević’s class will focus on the range of political systems operating in today’s world while Dr. Kong’s class will focus on culture and communication.

Programs and Events

Students have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities specific to their course and also in collaborative programming with students in the other course. Possible activities include guest speakers, cultural programming through film and food gatherings, virtual exchanges with peers in other countries, undergraduate research, and exposure to study abroad and immersion education.

How to Join

Choose your Living Learning Community preference on the housing application in the housing portal. The housing portal is all your housing information in one place.

If you are in a roommate group, make sure your roommate(s) indicate the same LLC preferences on their housing application. Otherwise, you will not be placed in the LLC.
