Undergraduate students have many opportunities to present and share their scholarly project beyond the classroom setting. Get started here:
Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity (CERCA) - April 27 - May 1, 2026
An annual week-long event in spring where students can present their work as posters, oral presentations, films, performances, and other formats. All work is presented on the UW- Eau Claire campus. Students are able to share their research results and experiences with the campus and Eau Claire community.
Some of the CERCA events at which students can share their research, include ORSP's oral presentation sessions, ORSP's poster sessions, the Provost's Honors Symposium (by nomination), the Mathematics Retreat, and the WiSys Quick Pitch (at which students may earn cash prizes). There is no cost to participate in CERCA events.
Universities of Wisconsin Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity - May 1, 2026
The Symposium highlights the diversity, breadth of expertise, and the life-changing and career-launching power of undergraduate research ongoing across the UWs, and it showcases the creativity, scholarship, and innovation that are at the core of the Universities of Wisconsin. Students can present their research, scholarly, and creative projects through poster presentations, oral presentations, art or creative project displays, films and artistic performances. For abstract submission and registration information, go to the UWs Symposium website. ORSP will organize travel for students wishing to attend the Universities of Wisconsin Symposium.
ORSP student travel awards are made to assist students traveling to regional, national or international professional meetings/conferences to present the results of collaborative research and creative activity. Students may receive up to $1000 per year.
The College of Arts and Sciences' STEM Opportunity Fund aims to help students who are underrepresented in their STEM fields connect to organizations and resources beyond campus to support their academic careers and provide mentorship and community. Students can apply for financial support through Gold for Blugolds and can use the funds for membership in professional organizations or attendance at conferences.
Many professional societies offer travel funds for students (e.g., reduced conference registration fees). Check the conference/society website or contact ORSP for assistance.
The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) has travel funds for some disciplines. UW-Eau Claire has an Enhanced Institutional Membership, so you can become a CUR member for free.
National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) - April 13-15, 2026
The National Conference on Undergraduate Research promotes undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students. It is the largest symposium in the country, bringing together 4000 undergraduate students from all fields and disciplines. Students presenting at the NCUR will have the option of doing an oral presentation, a poster presentation, a performance, or a visual arts display. Students planning to attend NCUR may apply for travel funding via the Student Travel for the Presentation of Research Results grant. Please note that this grant will only cover a portion of the expenses to attend NCUR; students will also need to seek funding from other sources. ORSP recommends students talk with their faculty/staff mentor to see if department funding is available.
WiSys Spark Symposium - July 23-25, 2025
The WiSys SPARK Symposium is where research, innovation, and entrepreneurship collide. The annual event brings together the best and brightest faculty, staff, students, and alumni from across the Universities of Wisconsin to network, collaborate, and celebrate great ideas. You'll find networking and collaboration opportunities, hear about impactful faculty research projects, and see students present research posters & innovative projects. For abstract submission and registration information, go to the WiSys Spark Symposium registration website. WiSys typically covers registration fees and housing for students. Students may seek travel funding via the Student Travel for the Presentation of Research Results grant and/or talk with their faculty/staff mentor to see if department funding is available.
We encourage students to work with their faculty/staff mentors to try to publish the results of their research, scholarly, and creative activity in academic journals, conference proceedings, editing collections, and the like. Faculty/staff mentors can best recommend which publication venues in their discipline might be most suitable.
Another option for publication is an undergraduate scholarly journal; see the sample list below.
