POSITION: Assistant Professor – Organic Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of organic chemistry, broadly-defined, for an appointment beginning on August 17, 2026. Applicants with the ability to teach the full spectrum of organic chemistry themed courses at UWEC are preferred. The Department offers a standard two-semester sequence of organic chemistry, and single semester courses in advanced synthesis, polymers, advanced organic and medicinal chemistry. Additional duties include establishing a vibrant research program involving undergraduates, providing service to the Department and University, contributing to the University’s mission o excellence, and maintaining a welcoming, professional scholarly environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned PhD in chemistry or closely related field from an accredited institution is required by June 30, 2026. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Previous teaching experience is an asset, but not required.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach a range of lecture and laboratory courses, primarily those related to organic chemistry and advanced elective courses. The successful candidate will establish an ongoing research program in organic chemistry or a closely related field that engages students and leads to off-campus presentations and peer-reviewed publications. The successful candidate will engage in service to the Department, College, University, and/or community, and provide advising to students as assigned.
THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UW-Eau Claire has 13 full-time faculty and instructional staff members, and is ACS-approved, offering BS degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Chemistry with Business Emphasis. The Department also offers an interdisciplinary Biochemistry/Molecular Biology major. The Department prepares graduates for successful careers in many fields, including industry, government, health care professions, and education. To this end, we provide high-quality undergraduate instruction in the chemical sciences through a combination of coursework and collaborative research. The Department is equipped with a full complement of modern instrumentation and high-performance computing resources to enable these courses, and we are excited for our new future home in UWEC's Science and Health Sciences building. Construction of this multidisciplinary facility will be completed in 2027, bringing together UWEC STEM departments, health science departments, and collaborative partners from the Mayo Clinic Health System. We emphasize both high-quality classroom teaching at all levels, as well as undergraduate research that manifests presentations at professional meetings and peer-reviewed publications.
