Collaborations that Transform Futures

Intro

At UW-Eau Claire, innovation isn’t a buzzword — it’s the environment you’ll learn in. Our established partnerships with pioneering healthcare systems bring together leading scientists, forward-thinking clinicians, and highly motivated Blugolds who want to shape the future of healthcare.

Here, healthcare education is rooted in purpose. Students learn to ask better questions, design smarter solutions, and understand the human stories behind every data point, diagnosis, and decision.

Together, we’re building a powerful ecosystem where students don’t just study science — they advance it.

A Launchpad for Medical and Biomedical Innovators

Through these collaborations, Blugolds gain early, meaningful access to research and clinical environments where science meets service. From your first year on campus, you’ll contribute to work that supports patients, strengthens health systems, and advances care for real people in real communities.

You’ll work side by side with:

  • UW-Eau Claire faculty researchers committed to undergraduate mentorship
  • Physicians, scientists, and clinical teams addressing today’s most pressing healthcare challenges
  • Innovators focused on patient-centered solutions, from prevention to treatment to recovery

This is hands-on learning in the truest sense — immersive, meaningful, and designed to give you an edge.

Advanced Computing Power
Blugold supercomputing clusters provide students with professional-level computational resources for data-driven medical and biological research. These environments empower students to test ideas, build prototypes, analyze data, and design solutions that improve lives.

As part of the Mayo Clinic Regenerative Neuroscience Scholars Program, I did Alzheimer's disease research at Mayo Clinic this past summer. I never thought I would have lived in Rochester and been able to do research and present my work—especially going from my sophomore to junior year in college. It's definitely one of those experiences I would not have had if I wasn't a Blugold.

Each year, a cohort of students are selected for the Blugold Biomedical Innovator program, directly connecting them to research with pioneering healthcare professionals.

Why Students Choose Eau Claire for Health Futures

  • Hands-on, meaningful experience earlier than anywhere else. You’ll engage in research and clinical environments where your work supports real patients, real systems, and real decisions — graduating with experience and professional connections many students don’t gain until graduate school.
  • Direct access to leaders in medicine. Learn from those practicing at some of the most respected healthcare organizations in the world, gaining insight into both the science of medicine and the purpose that comes with caring for others.
  • A community that knows you — and expects more of you. At UW-Eau Claire, mentorship is personal. Faculty challenge and support you to think critically, act ethically, and grow into a confident scientist, caregiver, or healthcare leader.
  • Innovation with purpose. Here, curiosity turns into action. Ideas turn into solutions. And your work is driven by one guiding question: how can healthcare work better for the people it serves?

Impactful Research Opportunities

Blugold faculty and student researchers are advancing research on vibrating gloves designed for individuals with Parkinson's disease. In collaboration with a physician with Mayo Clinic Health System, their goal is to help those affected by the disease improve their quality of life and regain greater control over their movements.

Dylan Berry portrait
When graduating senior Dylan Berry says his time at UWEC was 'a very packed 4 years,' he is underselling his accomplishments. The biomedical engineering major also completed two minors, multiple research projects and publications, took part in two student organizations and will graduate from the Crosby Honors College.
