Job Duties:

One full-time university staff position is available in University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Police Department. The working title for this assignment is police detective with an official title of police detective. The full-time vacancy is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a one-year probationary period. The expected hourly hiring salary is dependent on qualifications plus night and weekend differentials.

Conducts investigations within a specialized unit, communicates investigative findings, and testifies in proceedings as needed to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties. Acts as a liaison between the unit and internal and external stakeholders. Enforce laws and administrative statutes; Investigate complaints, crimes, and take appropriate enforcement action; Initiate crime prevention measures to ensure the safety and protection of persons and property; Administer emergency procedures including first aid; Performance is guided by departmental policies and procedures, university policies and procedures, Wisconsin statutes and administrative code; This position has full statutory arrest authority.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Testifies in court or administrative proceedings regarding statements and any other facts of information
  • Prepares and submits accurate written reports of all investigations conducted in association with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures
  • Utilizes analytical techniques to detect and track down criminal activity that takes place in various mediums which may include on digital devices, computers, and the internet
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to police officers in conducting investigations, executing search warrants and subpoenas, and interview and interrogation techniques
  • Serves as an investigator in a specialized unit formed to investigate specific crimes on a continuing basis, i.e. narcotics and gang activity
  • Provides uniformed police services at special events
  • Conducts criminal investigations to identify perpetrators, preserve the rights of victims, and prevent crime at the institution
  • Creates and maintains positive relationships with institutional affiliates, legal entities, social service organizations, civic groups, and the news media

The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Police Department consists of a Chief, Lieutenant, two Sergeants, Detective, seven full time and four part time police officers, and a number of students in our office and student Community Service Officers. https://www.uwec.edu/police/ We are committed to providing quality law enforcement services to students, faculty, staff and visitors. Required Qualifications:

Certifiable or Certified by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board. Associates Degree in a relevant field. Strong history if conducting criminal investigations, preserving rights of victims an preventing crime. Experience in preparing, writing and executing affidavits, search warrants and subpoenas. Strong experience in interview and interrogation techniques and practices. Ability to manage large scale investigations.
