Placement Testing for Transfer Students

Registering and Taking Placement Tests

Transfer students will be notified by their Advising Retention and Career Center (ARCC) advisor if placement tests are needed. We currently have both online and in-person options for testing ahead of the spring 2021 semester.

Our online tests are not proctored and free of charge. You must register for these exams using your UWEC email, and you can do so here. It is not recommended for students to take their Math Placement exam online; please see our in-person options if you need to take Math placement.

You will need to log in with your campus credentials to complete the registration form before taking the exam. Within two business days of registering (but more likely within a few minutes), you will receive an email from Scantron with a username and password for accessing the exams.

  • To take the tests, your web browser must be able to accept cookies, JavaScript, and pop-up windows. We recommend you use the most up-to-date version of your web browser. If you leave or log out of a test before finishing, you may log back in and the system will remember how much time was remaining.
  • Upon completing a test, you must submit the exam in order for us to receive your scores. If you forget to submit your exam, you should be able to log back into the system to submit.
  • Please note: It takes about one week for tests to be scored and sent to UW-Eau Claire.
IN-PERSON EXAMS (on January 27th, 2021)

This is an opportunity to take a proctored test in Math, English or World Languages (French, German or Spanish) on-campus. You can find more information on how to register for in-person exams by emailing

To the in-person exams, students must bring:

  • A photo ID
  • #2 pencil(s) with erasers
  • A non-graphing calculator (if taking the Math Placement exam)
  • Mask

Please note: Face masks must be worn at all times and social distancing will be practiced during the test. Math and English are 90-minute tests, World Languages are 60-minute tests, and you must stay the entire test time.

Placement tests will be given standard time. If you need accommodations, contact
