Placement Testing for Transfer Students

Registering and Taking Placement Tests

Transfer students will be notified by their Advising Retention and Career Center (ARCC) advisor if placement tests are needed.

This is an opportunity to take a proctored test in Math, English, or World Languages (French, German or Spanish) on-campus. You must pre-register to take these exams. Check-in begins at 11:45 am with testing starting at 12:00 pm.

Students must bring:

  • A non-graphing calculator if taking the Math placement test
  • Math and English are 90-minute tests, World Languages are 60-minute tests, you must stay the entire test time. One test is offered per day per student. If you want to take multiple tests and Math is one of them, register for Math at this time.

In response to COVID-19, the UW Center for Placement testing has created online, not proctored placement tests. Please register for and complete the exams here.

You will need to log in with your campus credentials to complete the registration form before taking the exam. Within two business days of registering (but more likely within a few minutes), you will receive an email from Scantron with a username and password for accessing the exams.

To take the tests, your web browser must be able to accept cookies, JavaScript, and pop-up windows. We recommended you use the most up-to-date version of your web browser. If you leave or log out of a test before finishing, you may log back in and the system will remember how much time was remaining.

Upon completing a test, you must submit the exam in order for us to receive your scores. If you forget to submit your exam, you should be able to log back into the system to submit.

The Chinese language placement test is available via Canvas.  Please email if you need to take the test.  A Japanese language placement test will be available once campus opens.
