UW-Eau Claire and Mayo Clinic Health System

Mayo Clinic Health System and UW-Eau Claire are creating an innovation hub focused on excellence in community healthcare research in Northwest Wisconsin. This powerful collaboration, extended in 2023 to a 10-year agreement, is one of only three such Mayo collaborations in the nation. This exciting relationship will allow Blugolds to help discover solutions to benefit patients in the region, state, country and around the world. Our combined expertise is preparing the next generation of medical pioneers to improve lives wherever they may go.

Transformative, inspired education

The collaboration between UW-Eau Claire and Mayo Clinic Health System provides boundless opportunities for university students, faculty and staff to explore cutting-edge ideas alongside physicians and clinic staff to develop solutions for real-world problems. This presents new internship and research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students and empowers physicians and scientists to launch research projects that may not have happened otherwise. The Mayo Clinic Health System collaboration goes beyond the traditional constraints of scientific research. By combining the arts, humanities, business, sciences and health care, this bold collaboration is creating practitioners of the future. 

Award-winning cancer research presented on Capitol Hill

A team of undergraduate students is on their way to helping improve the lives of individuals who have cancer. They will share their research on a national stage during the prestigious Posters on the Hill event in Washington, D.C. in the Spring of 2022. Only 60 projects are selected for the event. The Blugolds already have presented their research to healthcare professionals in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Rochester, Minnesota. This research received the Tim Higgins Innovation Award in the WiSys 2020 Student Research & Innovation Showcase for “demonstrating significant innovative, economic and societal impact.”
