Compost Information

UW-Eau Claire provides compost in:

  • Davies Center
  • Hilltop
  • The Sonnentag Center
  • Select dorm kitchens and lobbies

All food waste, paper towels, napkins, wet paper, and pizza boxes are safe to add to UWEC's compost.

Recycling

Co-mingled recycling is available throughout campus buildings, in bins without waste bags.

Black plastic and wet paper will not be recycled by the company that sorts and aggregates recycling. Do not put plastic films/bags in the regular recycling.

Plastic Bag/Film Recycling

Plastic bag/film recycling, supported by the Student Office of Sustainability, is available at:

  • The Student Sustainability Resource Center (Davies Center)
  • Select dorm lobbies

These plastic bags are actually recycled! They are taken to Trex, which turns the plastic into synthetic wood products.

E-Waste and Batteries

Electronic Waste and Battery recycling, supported by the Student Office of Sustainability and First Choice, is available at:

  • The Student Sustainability Resource Center (Davies Center)
  • Hilltop
  • First Choice Recycling (Free to Eau Claire residents)

Please tape both ends of batteries that are not "regular" alkaline batteries to prevent battery leakage. All batteries will be fully recycled.

UW-Eau Claire Surplus
The UWEC Surplus Store works to redistribute used items from campus into the community. All new construction projects with a capital budget of $5 million or more divert at least 50% of their project construction waste from landfills.
