Mission Statement

The Academic Skills Center supports all students in meeting their academic goals. We empower students to grow as reflective and resilient learners by facilitating peer-learning opportunities, providing academic success instruction, and creating welcoming environments for learning. 

We fulfill this mission by: 
  • Offering collaborative learning opportunities through peer-led study sessions 
  • Providing individualized tutoring and academic coaching sessions 
  • Promoting positive mindsets and inclusive practices  
  • Teaching learning strategies, tools, and skills that can be applied across disciplines

This is my 4th year as a Learning Center Specialist in the Academic Skills Center where I coordinate our Supplemental Instruction program and teach Strategies for Academic Success (GEN 110).

Prof. Root is a Learning Center Specialist in the Academic Skills Center where she coordinates the Peer Tutoring program and teaches academic support classes. She is also a lecturer in the Dept. of Physics & Astronomy where she teaches the occasional introductory physics course.  She enjoys helping students navigate college life and find academic success.
