The International Fellows Program for Research, Service, and Creative Activity is made possible Blugold Commitment Funding. This innovative program is coordinated by the Intercultural Immersions Office in collaboration with the Center for International Education (CIE), the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) and the Center for Service-Learning (CS-L).

The International Fellows Program capitalizes on the strength and success of high impact academic experiences and is dedicated to supporting international student-faculty collaborative research / creative activity and research service-learning (i.e. field research conducted in conjunction with a service-learning experience).

Program Requirements

To participate in the UW-Eau Claire International Fellows Program, you must be chosen by your Faculty / Staff Leader and be in good standing (academic, financial, and conduct) at UWEC. In addition, you must complete any prerequisite(s) as required by your project, which might include preparation sessions before travel, readings or research on your project, or orientation sessions. After completing the travel portion of the program, you are required to present your research (individually or as a group) at the UW-Eau Claire Student Research Day: CERCA and / or UW System Symposium. Once accepted into the International Fellows Program, you are required to complete various application materials to confirm your participation. You will receive an email detailing your registration for your online account to receive and process application materials for any international programs. You will be required to pay a $40 application fee, upload a copy of your passport, complete an online Medical Self-Assessment Form, and sign other documents regarding your participation.

Program Costs

The International Fellows Program is funded by Blugold Commitment, and covers the following expenses related to your project:

  • international round trip airfare
  • in-country transportation
  • in-country accommodations
  • research supplies

In addition, students are eligible for a stipend in the amount of $1,000 to cover meals while in-country. However, IFP funding is not intended to cover all project expenses. IFP funding does not cover all food costs while in-country, passports, visas, phone and internet, laundry, personal expenses, or cultural events or visits not related to your research project. Please budget for these additional expenses while in-country.

This faculty-led program receives funding from the Blugold Commitment International Fellows Program (IFP). The goals of the Blugold Commitment are to extend access and affordability to these exceptional high-impact practices for all UW-Eau Claire undergraduates, to ensure that more of these opportunities are available for these students, and to increase the numbers of students who participate. Therefore, while UW-Eau Claire undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in multiple high-impact immersion programs, each student is eligible to receive BCDT funding for only one IFP experience. Any student who has participated in a previous IFP experience is not eligible to receive funding through BCDT for a second IFP experience.
