University Marketing: Marketing Director
Job Information
POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in University Marketing beginning January 5, 2026. The working title for this assignment is Marketing Director with an official title of Marketing Director. This is a Limited appointment. The salary range is $85,000-$110,000 and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies aligned with the University’s strategic objectives.
 - Analyze market trends, audience behavior, and competitor activity to inform marketing direction.
 - Provide leadership and direction to the marketing team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
 - Oversee annual marketing planning, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance evaluation.
 
Campaign Management
- Design, implement, and oversee multi-channel marketing campaigns (digital, print, events, social media, email, etc.) focused on student recruitment, engagement, and retention.
 - Manage campaign timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
 - Evaluate campaign effectiveness through KPIs and analytics, adjusting strategies as needed.
 
Brand Management
- Define and safeguard the University’s brand identity, ensuring consistent messaging and visual standards across all platforms.
 - Promote the UWEC brand through storytelling, creative content, and audience-targeted outreach efforts.
 - Lead brand initiatives that enhance reputation, differentiate UWEC in the market, and connect with diverse audiences.
 
Digital Marketing & Analytics
- Oversee digital marketing initiatives including SEO/SEM, paid media, content marketing, email campaigns, and social media strategy.
 - Use data and analytics tools to measure effectiveness, optimize campaigns, and inform future planning.
 - Stay current with digital trends and emerging platforms to ensure cutting-edge outreach.
 
Team Development & Management
- Hire, train, and develop marketing staff to build a high-performing team.
 - Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.
 - Encourage professional development and foster a positive, inclusive team culture.
 
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison between University Marketing and key internal partners, including Enrollment Management, Admissions, Foundation, LTS and Academic Departments.
 - Ensure consistent communication and alignment of marketing efforts with institutional initiatives.
 - Represent marketing in university-wide committees and planning groups.
 
External Relations
- Manage relationships with external marketing agencies, consultants, designers, and media partners.
 - Cultivate strategic partnerships to expand marketing reach and enhance campaign effectiveness.
 
Market Insights & Innovation
- Conduct market research and gather customer insights to shape strategy and inform decision-making.
 - Use feedback from prospective and current students to enhance marketing approaches.
 - Identify and implement innovative marketing tools, platforms, and techniques.
 
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes department objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan
 - Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
 - Develops comprehensive marketing plans for the institution and its units that encourage research-based, market-driven programming as well as outcome evaluation including cost and effectiveness measures for marketing initiatives
 - Directs marketing campaigns by contributing information, analysis, and strategic thinking establishing functional objectives in line with organization goals
 - Builds brand identity and awareness for the institution among internal and external audiences, ensuring consistent image and identification with the brand across all marketing and communications efforts
 - Analyzes marketing trends and critical measurements of productivity and customer service to implement marketing operational strategies
 
Department:
University Marketing is a team of 12 professionals and operates within the Division of Enrollment Management.
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. Candidates must also possess a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in marketing, including at least three years in a leadership capacity. The ideal applicant will have a proven track record of developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns, along with a deep understanding of digital marketing strategies, tools, and analytics. Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential, as demonstrated experience in managing budgets, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
A master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field, along with leadership experience in higher education or enrollment marketing. Familiarity with CRM systems, marketing automation, and content management systems is highly desirable. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and promoting equity through inclusive marketing strategies will be strongly preferred.
