Body

This position reports to the Manager of University Printing Services and operates high-volume digital copiers with front-end software, as well as other digital duplicating equipment. This position works in tandem with other operators and assists with management of the workload for the Large Format Printer. This position assists with the scheduling of equipment maintenance and repair. This position maintains confidentiality measures for materials being produced. This position assists with managing the inventory of paper stock and supplies required for production. This position assists with training and supervision of student employees within the bindery and delivery operations. This position will also act as a back-up for customer service.

35% A. Operation and maintenance of high-volume digital copiers

A1. Operate digital copiers both color and monochrome and front-end software to scan, revise, resize, screen photos, page numbering in print production.

A2. Impose and program jobs for accurate output to comply with customer specifications for paper

weight, color, pagination, quantity and finishing needs.

A3. Review and change Web print orders as needed to ensure accuracy of pricing before printing.

Enter orders into the Printing web order entry system as needed when other staff are out.

A4. Evaluate and prepare workflow and best production route according to date, time and quantity needed

and assign proper equipment for completion.

A5. Coordinate web orders to interpret and ensure accurate printing of attached files and pricing.

A6. Prepare and run queued jobs for printing on high-speed digital copiers and check all orders for

accuracy.

A7. Scan photos to sharpen image, halftone screens, crop, resize and insert into documents.

A8. Assist with coordinating the scheduling of periodic maintenance of high-volume copiers and schedule downtime needed for immediate repairs by service technicians for uninterrupted workflow.

A9. Assist with the purchasing of replacement high-speed digital copier supplies.

A10. Maintain strong security and confidentiality of faculty materials handled by University Printing Services.

A11. Operate and maintain other digital duplicating equipment.

A12. Monitor use of university seal and word mark by following the University Standards Manual.

A13. Monitor all print production pieces to ensure all current mailing regulations are met.

30% B. Assist with Sustainable Printing Program and student workers.

B1. Oversight and independent decision making for the Follow Me Printer program

B2. Hiring student workers for the Sustainable print program

B3. Determine scheduling to best serve the customer’s needs.

B4. Contact vendors for issues and schedule repairs to best meet the needs of the department.

B5. Order supplies and materials for the Follow me Sustainable printers.

B6. Keep detailed records of stock used for each follow me printer.

15% E. Customer Service and Miscellaneous Duties

E1. Serve as backup when other employees are absent as needed.

E2. Provide excellent customer service while assisting clients with design, paper type and color. Serve as a technical resource for clients.

E3. Assist with backup order entry in the absence of regular Customer Service employees.

E4. Assist in the completion of customer orders in other production areas when necessary.

E5. Train and monitor student assistants to ensure high quality and accurate work.

E6. Administer strong security/confidentiality of materials handled by University Printing Services.

E7. Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

5% C. Assist with the operation and maintenance of all bindery equipment

D1. Assist with operating all types of bindery equipment. Cutter, Folder, Coil binding, perfect binding…etc.

D2. Assist with completing bindery needed for print orders.

D3. Assist in training and evaluating student employees in the bindery area.

D4. Assist with scheduling maintenance and repairs of bindery equipment.

5% B. Assist with the operation of Large Format Printer

B1. Assist with decision making for operation the LF Printer.

B2. Assist with the operation of LF Printer.

B3. Assist with determining the scheduling of orders to best serve the customer deadlines.

B4. Contact the vendor for issues and schedule repairs to best meet the needs of the department.

B5. Assist with meeting with customers to decide what new production materials would satisfy their needs and increase

Printing Services sales.

B6. Assist with purchasing supplies and production materials for the LF printers.

5% D. Assist with the Purchase of paper and supplies for production needs in Printing Services

C1. Assist with Determining and maintaining inventory levels for paper and other supplies used in production and order from vendors following University Purchasing policy and procedures.

C2. Assist with Verifing shipments, process packing slips with order forms and stock paper and supplies.

5% E. Miscellaneous duties as assigned

E1. Serve as a technical resource for clients.

E2. Assist with the backup position for the Sustainable Printing Program.

E3. Assist with on campus deliveries in the absence of student workers.

E4. Assist with the completion of customer order forms when necessary.

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    • Image manipulation
    • Adobe Creative Suite
    • Large format printers
  • Ability to work with a variety of file formats
  • Knowledge of bindery equipment set up and operation
  • Strong organizational and electronic file management skills
  • Effective customer service and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds - required

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Works in partnership with internal teams to ensure completion of duties
  • Inspects products prior to packaging to ensure all specifications meet set standards
  • Programs and operates high-speed machines and produce products to customer specifications
  • Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • Sets up machines to complete projects as needed
