Advising, Retention, and Career Center: Academic Advisor

Job Duties:
Three full-time, professional academic staff positions are available in the Advising, Retention + Career Center beginning August 23, 2025. The job title is Academic Advisor. These are renewable assignments, contingent on performance. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
- Proactively engages students as needed
- Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
- Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
- Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
- Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
- Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
Department:
The Advising, Retention and Career Center consists of 40+ staff members dedicated to effective campus-wide academic and career advising practices and initiatives. The center consists of Academic Advising, Career Services, Academic Testing and Orientation Programs. Our staff partner with faculty advisors from the four colleges to provide our students with a holistic advising approach.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Knowledge of best practices to promote student academic success and career exploration, and ability to learn, understand and explain processes and requirements.
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and meet goals and work well under time pressure and respond to multiple demands.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a cohesive member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability in developing cooperative relationships and partnerships with colleagues, and with faculty and staff.
- Demonstrated successful experience working with students (college or pre-college) from diverse backgrounds
- Knowledge of career assessments and career development theory.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and prior experience with, proactive student intervention.
- A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
