One scholarship of $600 is available.

Awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior who will be enrolled for the full academic year following notification of the award. The applicant shall have demonstrated active involvement and a passion for social justice and inclusion. Students who have a demonstrated record of engagement in the Black Student Association (BSA) or the Latinx Student Association (formerly known as the Student Organization of Latinos or SOL) should receive priority. The donors intend for the scholarship to encourage student leaders to be a voice of change on campus.

While financial need should not be a priority in selecting the best recipient, it should be a consideration if there is more than one outstanding applicant with equal qualifications.

This scholarship is not intended to be renewed for the same student from year to year.

Donor Background:

Angie Hambrick is the Director of the Diversity Center at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. She graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in communication and completed her master's degree at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Angela Pittman Taylor, also a communications graduate, received her master's from UW-Milwaukee. Angela is the vice president of public relations for Robert W. Baird & Co. in Milwaukee.

The two women were friends in college and have remained close since graduating. As students, they were active in multicultural activities on campus and were passionate and dedicated student leaders in the areas of inclusion and social justice. They are working to engage other multicultural alumni to support this collective scholarship effort as a visible testament to their desire to "pay it forward" by encouraging current and future students to find their voices and be leaders for change.

One scholarship of $500 is available.

The recipient must have a minimum of 12 credits and be in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to American Indian students who have been involved in the Inter-Tribal Student Council (formerly known as the Native American Student Association, NASA).

One scholarship of $450 is available.

Available to a UW-Eau Claire student from an ethnically diverse background who has a demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to an ethnically diverse student who also has a disability.

Established in 2011 with an estate gift from Clarice Chase Dunn, a 1937 UW-Eau Claire graduate originally from Madison. Clarice taught in many locations, including a Japanese relocation camp during World War II. An accomplished writer, she had articles and short stories published in local papers and national magazines. In Madison, she developed classes for intellectually challenged adults and initiated a program to encourage senior citizens to write their reminiscences.

A variable number of scholarships from $500 up to $1,000 are available.

The Diversity Incentive Scholarship is intended to retain students of color enrolled at UW-Eau Claire, as well as encourage student involvement in furthering equity, diversity and inclusivity at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. This scholarship is funded by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

Students must be enrolled full-time, be in good academic standing, and demonstrate involvement and/or leadership in furthering equity, diversity and inclusivity. Financial need is considered but is not required to receive the scholarship. Recipients must maintain full-time status through-out the academic year in order to keep the award.

The funds for these awards will only be released to the recipients after meeting with an advisor in the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

This scholarship provides financial incentives to student leaders who are African American, American Indian, Asian or Hispanic and who have shown leadership ability and involvement at the University. Significant involvement will be measured by the student's participation in overall campus activities as well as involvement in Office of Multicultural Affairs activities and programs. Applicants for this scholarship must be full-time students in good academic standing and sophomore standing or above.

It is preferred that the recipients be Native Americans and/or students with an interest in business pursuing a bachelor's degree.

This scholarship is intended for American Indian students to assist them as they attend UW-Eau Claire, either through scholarships or for fees and travel expenses for educational enhancement opportunities such as conferences and seminars. Financial support could also be used from this fund to assist with recruitment of American Indian students or with pre-collegiate initiatives.

Provides financial incentives to student leaders who have shown substantial leadership ability and involvement at the University. Applicants must be in good academic standing while pursuing a bachelor's degree.

Donor Background:

This scholarship was established by the Office of Multicultural Affairs staff to honor the memory of the former director, James "Jimmy Joe" Vance. For over 30 years, Jim Vance dedicated his career to ensuring educational opportunities for students at two University of Wisconsin campuses. At both UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire, Jim developed programs designed to attract diverse students to university education and supported their success. Jim championed the importance of diversifying college campuses before it became a top priority in education.

The cornerstone for his programs and initiatives was his ability to increase financial resources and expand student scholarships. These achievements resulted from his holistic, integrated approach to multicultural education. A colleague wrote, "Jim believed in the transforming power of education and worked tirelessly to make it a reality." Students describe Jim as a soft-spoken man with an enormous heart. He is remembered for his dedication, passion, commitment, and vision. They saw him as a great friend, role model, leader, big brother, and mentor. He was someone they could count on when most needed. As students recall their college experiences, they often praise Jim Vance as the force who guided them to levels of achievement that often surpassed their own expectations. He was an educator who touched the lives of many.

This scholarship was created in September 1994 by the American Ethnic Coordinating Office in appreciation of the commitment to, and support of, minority students shown by Jo Dahle during his tenure as the Director of Development and University Relations at UW-Eau Claire. He was a special friend of minority students and has served as a mentor to many people on campus. This scholarship recognizes his ongoing concern for the welfare of individuals and his commitment to higher education.

The purpose of the scholarship will be to provide financial incentives to undergraduate student leaders who are African American, American Indian, Asian, or Hispanic and who have shown substantial leadership ability and involvement at the University. Involvement will be measured by the student's participation in overall campus activities, as well as involvement in multicultural programs.

Applicants must be in good academic standing.

Two scholarships from $100 up to $225 are available.

This scholarship will be awarded to student office workers in the Office of Multicultural Affairs who have shown substantial leadership ability and involvement in various assigned tasks.

Significant involvement will be measured by the student's participation in overall campus activities as well as involvement in OMA activities and programs. Applicants must be full-time undergraduates in good academic standing.

This scholarship was created in 1996 by Jim Vance in appreciation of the commitment to, and support of, multicultural student workers shown by Moya Novak during her tenure as the program assistant in the Office of Multicultural Affairs. She was a friend and mentor to many students.

Provides financial incentives to student leaders who are African-American, American Indian, Asian, or Hispanic who have shown leadership ability and involvement as students. Applicants must be full-time students in good academic standing, sophomore standing or above.

It is preferred that the recipients be Native Americans and/or have an interest in music. Significant involvement will be measured by the student's participation in overall campus activities as well as involvement in Office of Multicultural Affairs activities and programs.

A variable number of scholarships up to $4,000 are available.

This scholarship shall be awarded to an undergraduate Hmong student with limited financial means as determined by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation’s scholarship award standards. Preference is given to first-generation college students and students with high FAFSA-verified financial need. The scholarship is available for first year through senior level students.

One scholarship of $600 is available.

This scholarship is awarded to a Native American student in good academic standing who has demonstrated artistic talent and is pursuing a degree in an artistic discipline, including visual, performing, and literary arts.

Preference will be shown for Wisconsin residents and members of Wisconsin tribes.

The Awards Committee reserves the right not to issue an award if no qualified applicants submit an application.
