On June 5, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs received a UW System Award for Excellence at a UW System Board of Regents meeting in Milwaukee. "We are honored to have been nominated for this award by our colleagues at UW-Eau Claire, whom we have the privilege to serve and support in their scholarship, grant-seeking and mentoring of students," said Dr. Karen Havholm, UW-Eau Claire's assistant vice chancellor for research. James Phillips, chemistry, has been awarded The Excellence in Mentoring Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Award, which honors a mentor who has been at UW-Eau Claire five years or more. Emerging Mentor in Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Awards were given to Saori Braun, kinesiology, and Bart Dahl, chemistry. The three faculty were honored at CERCA for their skill and dedication in mentoring student scholarly projects. A total of 86 faculty were nominated by students and alumni for these new mentoring awards, which will be given annually. Learn more about mentoring here.
Drs. Stephen Drucker, Jim Phillips, and Kurt Wiegel were recently awarded National Science Foundation grants for their respective research projects. "To have three independent NSF-funded research programs ongoing in the chemistry department at the same time speaks to the high quality of the cutting-edge research being conducted by our faculty and students," said Dr. Warren Gallagher, chair of the chemistry department. "It is our ability to offer these types of opportunities within an undergraduate liberal arts setting that makes our students highly competitive for top-notch graduate programs and employment situations upon graduation." Dr. Jennifer Dahl will be honored by the Research, Economic Development, and Innovation (REDI) Committee at the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents' Feb. 5 meeting in Madison. The $50,000 Regent Scholars Award will allow Dahl and undergraduate co-researchers to pursue a project involving nanoparticles and nanomedicine. Learn more about UW System grants here.
