Professional Sales Internships

The Professional Sales Marketing Internship Program provides majors and minors with experiential learning opportunities in sales. You can earn three credits which you can use as an elective in your degree program. Internship experiences may also be used to satisfy requirements for the University Sales Center Alliance Certified Sales Student certificate.

Program eligibility

Students who wish to complete a professional sales marketing intern must: 

  • Have at least junior standing
  • Be a declared marketing major or minor
  • Have completed Mktg 337, Professional Selling
  • Have an overall GPA of at least 2.6.
Finding an internship

You are responsible for finding your own internship. A list of prescreened sales internships are available from Melaney Barba, the sales internship coordinator. We encourage your to attend special events such as the fall and spring UW-Eau Claire Career Conferences, and Great Northwoods Sales Warm-Up job fair to learn about internship opportunities. In addition, check the UW-Eau Claire Career Services website and Blugold CareerLink sites regularly for internship listings.

Internship for credit

Offered summer session only. Approval forms must be submitted by May 1.

The experience must be paid. Students must work a minimum of 450 hours (150 hours per credit) over a minimum of a 10 week period. Full-time internships (40-hours per week) are strongly preferred.

You must complete at least one project during the experience. Projects may be determined by your employer or developed by you with the employer's approval. You must also keep a weekly personal journal and read at least one book from a list of titles provided by Ms. Barba.

Ms. Barba will visit you at your internship site sometime during the experience. Upon completion of the internship, you will participate in a mandatory final portfolio review with the marketing faculty. No course credit will be awarded without the final review.

Internship to satisfy the Sales Certificate

Offered during the academic year and summer session

The experience may be paid or unpaid. Students must complete a minimum of 150 hours. The experience may be a full-time or part-time work experience taken for credit or noncredit.

You must keep a weekly personal journal. Upon completion of the internship, you will participate in a final portfolio review with Ms. Barba. No certificate credit will be awarded for the internship without the final review.
