Robotic dog fetches attention to new major at UW-Eau Claire
It’s not unusual to see people walking their dogs across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus.
What is unusual is one dog that is walked not with a leash, but with a remote control.
The “dog,” known by its manufactured name of “Unitree Go 2,” is part of a new program major in assistive systems and robotics engineering.
But there is more to this than having a robotic dog walking around campus. The work Blugolds will do could lead to programs in assistive services for things like helping an elderly person stay independent in their own home or assisting emergency personnel in a crisis.
But before all that happens, students will be working in the classroom and the lab to make sure this quadruped robot can navigate the human world.
