Amanda Carrier named UW-Eau Claire chief of police

Carrier has been in leadership roles the past four years in the university police department, including as acting chief of police since February after the retirement of Police Chief Jay Dobson. In her more than 13 years with the department, Carrier also has been a police lieutenant, police sergeant and police officer.

Carrier says she is honored to be named chief of police and “incredibly excited” for this next step in her professional career.

“It is a privilege to lead a department with such a strong tradition of service and dedication,” Carrier says. “I look forward to building upon that legacy and working collaboratively to ensure a safe, welcoming and inclusive campus for all who learn, live, work and visit UW-Eau Claire.

“I take the safety and security of our students personally. In partnership with other units across campus, I come to work every day to ensure that all students have an excellent and safe college experience.”

Tracy Drier, vice chancellor for finance and administration, says she is thrilled that Carrier is stepping into the new leadership role.

“What really stands out about Amanda is her deep commitment to both the profession and our campus community,” Drier says. “She leads with empathy, focuses on education and safety, and truly cares about the well-being of our students, faculty and staff. I’m confident she is the right person to lead the department into the future.”

Carrier is a 2009 UW-Eau Claire graduate with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She attended the Law Enforcement Academy at Chippewa Valley Technical College in 2010 and is an adjunct instructor at CVTC, instructing Law Enforcement Academy recruits in vehicle contacts and physical readiness. Carrier is a graduate of both the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Trilogy and the Leadership in Police Organizations program.

“As a proud Blugold alumna and a member of the UW-Eau Claire Police Department for the past 13 years, I have seen firsthand the power of Blugolds working together toward a common goal,” Carrier says. “I’ve had the privilege of serving in nearly every role within our department, and each opportunity has helped me grow as a leader. I deeply value the relationships built both within the university and with our area law enforcement partners, and I look forward to continuing that collaboration as we move boldly into the future.”
