I come to UW-Eau Claire - Barron County with twelve years of experience teaching biology at UW-Whitewater, several years as an academic dean at Peninsula College in Washington, and additional background in environmental education and natural history interpretation in Ohio and Alaska. My research interests focus on acoustic communication in birds and how acoustic signaling might help regulate territory size, acquisition, and retention among birds in spatially limited landscapes. I've studied the vocal and territorial behavior of loons in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Alaska. Additionally, I have led travel-study trips to Yellowstone National Park, Alaska, and Costa Rica.
