I was born and raised in the American Midwest, from Missouri to South Dakota, and except for a 3-year stint in the US Army and brief travels in Europe and to the distant coasts of our country, I have tended to gravitate to those home grounds.

I engaged in studies at Iowa State University and Kansas State University, graduating from there with a doctorate in 1969. My wife Verna and I came to UWEC in that year, and I’ve taught courses in writing and literature (American lit, literary criticism, science fiction, and others) at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We live in Eau Claire county, and our two daughters (Rebecca and Jennifer) live in Boston, MA, and Micanopy, FL.
