Brian Orr, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Brian Orr joined the Department of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire in fall 2020 after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Florida. Previously, Dr. Orr worked with middle and high school students as a school-based speech-language pathologist.

At UWEC, his academic and clinical teaching focuses on the interdisciplinary assessment and treatment of language and literacy disorders. He also teaches undergraduate seminars exploring meaningful work, human flourishing, and the relationship between work and living well. He serves as the faculty supervisor for speech-language pathology teams at the Human Development Center and Language and Literacy Clinic.

Dr. Orr directs the Human Flourishing Project in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, through which he conducts scholarship exploring the role of human flourishing in speech-language pathology education, clinical practice, and the lives of individuals with communication disorders. His additional research interests include improving educational and clinical support for families engaged in home education and understanding the learning needs and experiences of children from military families.

Dr. Orr also serves as a board member of Children of Valor, an organization dedicated to supporting the educational and developmental needs of children in the U.S. Special Operations community and raising awareness of the unique needs shared by all military families.
