Pediatric Speech Pathologist

Job Description / Summary
- Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center seeks a part-time Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist to join our large rehabilitation team.
- This position involves evaluating and providing therapy for medically complex pediatric patients, from birth to 18 years old, with a wide range of diagnoses. The Speech Language Pathologist will develop and implement effective treatment plans, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and offer counseling to patients and families to support long-term outcomes.
- The position has the opportunity to serve both the inpatient and outpatient settings, dependent on candidate experience and departmental needs. Our ideal candidate would have some pediatric hospital experience, a strong background in dysphagia, VFSS/FEES exposure or experience, though all are encouraged to apply.
- Joining the Speech-Language Pathology team at Dartmouth-Hitchcock means you will work closely with a large speech team with diverse areas of specialty. Our pediatric speech team provides some of the highest quality services in northern New England and has conducted interdisciplinary research that has changed practice patterns in our Intensive Care Nursery. Our supportive leadership prioritizes practice improvement initiatives as well as structured mentorship and comprehensive training. The collaborative and collegial environment throughout the institution will enable you to provide the best care possible to your patients.
- This is a part-time 28 hours per week position.
Responsibilities
- Performs evaluations, develops plans and goals, and executes treatments according to the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Standards of Practice for Speech Language Pathologists.
- Maintain complete, accurate documentation and medical records in a timely manner and in the approved departmental and professional format.
- Perform comprehensive assessment and management of patients with feeding and swallowing impairments.
- Provide education to patients and their caregivers regarding evaluation findings, exercise programs, and management of care recommendations.
- Perform instrumental assessments of swallowing including Modified Barium Swallow Studies and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluations of Swallowing (FEES).
- Work collaboratively with referring providers, team members, and other staff to ensure patient safety during testing and to develop plan of care.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech Pathology.
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Approved CFY with supervision or ASHA certificate of clinical competence required.
- New Hampshire licensure required.
- BLS Certification Required

- Staff will primarily serve with our Birth to 3 team in Monroe County and will be based in our Sparta office.

Responsibilities
- Administers speech and language evaluations, tests or examinations to diagnose and plan treatments for clients/patients/residents with various speech problems and swallowing disorders. Assesses clients/patients/residents with various speech, language, cognitive or swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses.
- Provides speech and language services to clients/patients/residents; monitors disease progression and adjusts treatments accordingly. Instructs clients/patients/residents in practicing speech and language therapeutic exercises; provides consultation for clients/patients/residents working through speech and language treatment processes. Ensures all speech and language related standards, policies, protocols and quality requirements are met.
- May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders. Will demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements. Demonstrates level of treatment associated with their specialty provided to their clients/patients/residents. Follows and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.
- Exhibits flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments. Participates in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health. Will be interacting with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: providers, case managers, third party payers, public organizations, etc. May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide client/patient/resident care, treatment, or other services. Will be expected to provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership. Performs other related duties as requested by manager.
- Based on assigned area, work may focus on those receiving intervention in the post-acute, long term care and home health care environments when applicable.
Qualifications
- Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
- Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Speech-Language Pathologist.
- When working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred by GSS Facilities): Holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or currently working on Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
- When applicable, may require valid driver's license.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
