Intro

The Cohen Quartet Scholarship is available to eligible high school seniors auditioning for admission to the Music and Theatre Arts Department, as well as current college students; UW-Eau Claire students must be actively enrolled at the time of the audition to be eligible.

Application Requirements:

  • Send the following items to musthe53@uwec.eduMaterials are due February 19th 2027 for the March 6th, 2027 program auditions.
    • Resumé, including a cover letter stating the meaning of music in your life and leadership qualities you could bring to the quartet and the orchestra program. Be sure that you have included your contact information, including both your address and your e-mail, on your resumé.  
    • Video upload (YouTube or Vimeo) with high audio quality.
      • Recordings must contain all required audition repertoire listed below.
    • Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from your current music teacher or orchestra director.
  • Eligibility: High school senior or college student at the time of the application.

Violin

1. Required piece: Any movement of choice from a Bach Solo Violin Partita or Sonata (BWV 1001–1006)
2. Choose one of the following:

Brahms: Violin Concerto, Mvt I
Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1, Mvt I or III
Lalo: Symphonie espagnole, Mvt. I
Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto, Mvt. I
Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3, 4 or 5
Saint-Saëns: Violin Concerto No. 3, Mvt. I
Sibelius: Violin Concerto, Mvt. I
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto, Mvt I

Viola
