Next steps to secure 2027-2028 Housing
Students can pay your deposit anytime between October 19th and November 20, 2026 in CampS. (The $75 housing deposit will not show up as a charge on your account, rather the student must initiate the payment -- make sure you select 2027-28).
International students looking to do an international wire transfer to pay housing deposit should follow link below and read instructions to use Flywire to complete payment.
The 2027-28 housing application and contract will be available in My Housing Portal beginning on October 19, 2026 until November 20, 2026. Submit your application online (and pay the $75 Housing deposit in CampS) to qualify for room selection in December.
To find the application in the Housing Portal go to the Submit & Manage Apps tile > 2027-28 > Apply.
Contract Length Options
When completing your housing application, you will select your preferred housing contract length. You will have two options, and the option you select will directly affect the options you see during room selection:
- Academic year (9-month) contract:
- August 31, 2027- May 13, 2028
- Residence Halls, Chancellors, The Suites, Priory, Haymarket Landing
- Calendar year (12-month) contract:
- June 1, 2027 - May 13, 2028
- Aspenson Mogensen only
If you would like to live with specific roommate(s), you may create or join a roommate group. This step is optional.
You can create or join a roommate group while completing your housing application, or you can return to the Housing Portal after submitting your application to create or join a group.
Roommate groups can include up to four students total.
Roommate Groups Must Be Mutual
Roommate groups are not complete until all members have accepted their invitation.
- The student who creates the roommate group is designated as the Group Leader.
- Students invited to the group will initially appear as Invited.
- An invited student must accept the invitation before they become a Member of the roommate group.
- A roommate group is considered valid only when every student is listed as either the Group Leader or a Member.
- Students who remain in Invited status are not considered part of the roommate group and will not be included as a roommate during room selection.
Be sure everyone in your roommate group accepts their invitation before room selection.
Students who complete both required steps (deposit & application) by the November 20 deadline will receive a room selection date and time in December. During your assigned selection time, you will be able to log in to the Housing Portal and select an available room.
Room Selection Priority
Your room selection priority is based on the number of UW-Eau Claire credits you have earned at the time of room selection.
Important: Only credits earned through UW-Eau Claire count toward room selection priority. Credits transferred to UWEC from another college or university, as well as college credits earned while in high school, do not count toward your room selection priority.
- For example, a current first-year student or a new transfer student who has not yet earned any credits at UWEC will have 0 UWEC-earned credits at the time of room selection, even if they entered UWEC with college credits from high school or another institution.
- Students with the same number of UWEC-earned credits will be randomly assigned a room selection date and time within that priority group.
Roommate Group Pro Tips
Smaller roommate groups often have better luck.
Although roommate groups can include up to four students, finding available rooms for an entire group becomes more difficult as the group gets larger. A group of four, for example, may have difficulty finding four available spaces together at the same time.
Groups of two students often have more options than groups of three or four.
If your entire roommate group cannot find available spaces together during room selection, your group may need to disband and select rooms independently.
Creating a roommate group does not guarantee that everyone in the group will be able to select rooms together.

Your UWEC-earned credits determine your room selection priority, and students within the same credit group are randomly assigned their selection dates and times.
Yes. You may create or join an optional roommate group through the Housing Portal. Roommate groups can include up to four students.
All roommate groups must be mutual, and each student in the roommate group must have qualified for room selection. During room selection, your group can attempt to select available spaces together. However, creating a roommate group does not guarantee that your entire group will be able to select rooms together.
The larger your roommate group, the more difficult it may be to find enough available spaces together when your selection time arrives. Groups of two generally have more options than groups of three or four. If enough spaces are not available for your entire group, you may need to disband the group and select rooms independently.
If you would like to live with an incoming freshman or transfer student, please follow the steps below.
Incoming Freshmen Student
Freshmen are only eligible to live in Traditional Residence Hall Double rooms. If you are a returning student hoping to room with an incoming freshman, you must plan to live in a traditional hall.
- You, the returning student, should create a Roommate Group within the Housing Portal and invite your preferred roommate.
- The freshman does not need to submit a housing deposit, but they DO need to submit their own 2027-28 Freshman Student housing application in the Housing Portal. As they are completing their application, they should be able to see the outstanding invitation and accept it, therefore becoming the group MEMBER.
- As the current student, you will self-select a room in a Traditional Residence Hall double room. Immediately after choosing the room, email housing@uwec.edu to request the other side of the room be held for your incoming preferred roommate. Be ready to provide their name and the room number you just selected.
- Housing personnel will first verify your preferred roommate is a MEMBER of your roommate group. If the student has not applied and/or has not joined your roommate group, the other side of the room will not be held.
- Incoming students are assigned housing in June 2027.
Incoming Transfer Student
Transfer students may live in any available housing type.
- You, the returning student, should create a Roommate Group within the Housing Portal and invite your preferred roommate.
- The transfer student does not need to submit a housing deposit, but they DO need to submit their own 2027-28 Transfer Student housing application in the Housing Portal. As they are completing their application, they should be able to see the outstanding invitation and accept it, therefore becoming the group MEMBER.
- As the current student, you will self-select a room in a Traditional Residence Hall double room. No. While returning students will have the opportunity to select their own room, specific buildings, rooms, or room types are not guaranteed.
To participate in room selection, you must complete both the $75 housing deposit and your housing application between Monday, October 19 and Friday, November 20, 2026.
Eligible students will then receive a room selection date and time in December. During your assigned selection time, you will be able to view available rooms and select the space that works best for you.

Because room availability changes as students select rooms, your preferred building or room type may not be available when your selection time arrives. We recommend keeping an open mind and considering multiple housing options.
The building/room type preferences you indicate within your online housing application will indicate the housing contract length you will be locked in for. The option you select will directly impact what residence halls you will have to choose from during room selection. You can return to your application any time before November 20 or during the room selection process to update this option.

I will be study abroad spring term or graduating in December, thus I do not need housing for spring term. What are my options?
- You will sign an full academic year contract for two semesters.
- Then during fall term, you will need to request cancellation of your spring portion of the contract based on graduation or study abroad. Housing will verify with the appropriate University office and cancel your contract if verified.
I will be studying abroad for fall and only need spring term housing. Do I go through this room selection process in December?
- No, you will need to sign the contract only for spring term. This will be available in September 2027.
Once your room selection time arrives, you will choose from the rooms that are available at that time. Housing staff cannot guarantee that a specific room, building, or room type will still be available.
If you are unable to select your preferred option, you should consider the other available rooms and buildings before completing your selection.
Information about room change requests will be provided after the initial room selection process is complete.
- Yes! Returning students will be able to submit a Room Change Request in February (watch your email in late January for details).
- Students must have an active 2027-28 assignment to submit a Room Change Request form.
- Room Change Requests for students who are assigned to Aspenson Mogensen 2027-28 will be reviewed and processed until May 1, 2027.
- Room Change Requests for students who hold a 9-month contract for 2027-28 (any building but Aspenson Mogensen), will be reviewed and processed until August 1, 2027.
- If there are requested roommates, all roommates must submit a request to verify that this is a mutual request.
All single options are available on a first come, first served basis and is dependent on what is available when it is your turn to be assigned. As a reminder, room assignments for students are prioritized based on their number of UWEC-earned credits at the time of assignment.
Single rooms are extremely popular and fill quickly, so it is encouraged for students to diversity their building/room type preferences.
- Haymarket offers studio and 1 bedroom single options
- Aspenson Mogensen offers 1 bedroom singles
- Residence Hall singles only offered in Towers
- Priory Hall offer residence hall singles. A car is recommended to live here!

Parking is purchased online. Watch during spring term for information from Blugold Central on information to purchase R for central campus residence hall students, W or Aspenson Mogensen underground for Aspenson Mogensen student or Haymarket underground or City of Eau Claire parking for Haymarket Residents.
Rainbow Floor (Towers South 7th & 8th Floors)
- As a student selecting Gender Inclusive Housing, you recognize and understand that this community has been designed to meet the needs of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual community members and allies. This is an inclusive community committed to social justice and the celebration of people of diverse sexualities and genders.
- You may indicate your interest in this community as an individual or as part of a roommate group.
- On the housing contract, you will be asked to identify your gender inclusive housing preference. You (as well as any roommates) should answer ‘I am seeking GENDER INCLUSIVE housing on the Towers Rainbow Floor.”
Gender Inclusive units in apartments or suites
- The purpose of gender inclusive is to allow for a comfortable and safe living environment for students across the gender spectrum. Student interested in gender inclusive housing will be required to exhibit their ability to support suitemates of all forms of gender expression. In gender inclusive areas, the living space is not designated by a person’s sex or gender.
- To qualify for an all gender unit, students must establish a roommate group that can fill all available spaces within the unit.
- Aspenson Mogensen (2, 3, 4 individuals)
- Haymarket (2 or 4 individuals)
- Suites (4 individuals)
- Chancellors (4 individuals)
- I understand that if I live in a gender inclusive unit that my assigned roommates and I are responsible for finding a replacement in the event one of the original assigned individuals leaves the unit. If no one is found, Housing reserves the right to move individuals and return my unit to a single gender space.
To indicate interest in this area, on the housing application, you will answer a question about your Housing Type preference. You will need to indicate ‘I am seeking gender inclusive housing in the apartments or Suites.” All individuals in the roommate group must also answer the question the same way.
- Meal plans are required in any residence hall doubles/singles and the Suites.
- Meal plans are optional at Chancellors, Aspenson Mogensen, Haymarket, and Priory.
- If a student is assigned to a hall where a meal plan is required, the student will be defaulted to the Gold Flex meal plan, with the opportunity to change their meal plan assignment in May.
Only requests with supporting medical documentation will be reviewed. Contact the Services for Students with Disabilities Office at ssd@uwec.edu or 715-836-5800.
All requests will be reviewed by SSD and the Director of Housing. You will be notified on your request status via email. All requests should be submitted by November 1st for the next academic year. All approved requests will receive specific instructions upon approval. All students who have approved accommodation for the current academic year do need to go through the process to renew their accommodation for for the next academic year.
I am applying to be an RA, should I go through the Room Selection Process?
We are excited that you are interested in the awesome opportunity to be an RA to enhance your leadership skills, assist fellow students, network on campus, and build your resume.
- Academic year RA hiring process starts in the beginning of each spring term for the next academic year. Look on Handshake for job announcement and apply in My Housing Portal.
- Spring term RA hiring process starts in the middle of fall term for the next spring. Look on Handshake for job announcement and apply in My Housing Portal.
ANSWER: Yes, if you want to live on campus next academic year regardless of the RA position, then you should submit your housing application and deposit to qualify for an assignment for the next academic year. The RA process is very competitive and since you are not 100% sure if you will have the job or not, make sure to lock in a space to live on campus. If you are hired, you will be refunded the $75 housing deposit and you will be reassigned by the Housing Office to an RA room.
No subleasing is allowed in any University Sponsored Housing including Aspenson Mogensen and Haymarket Landing.
