‘Guys and Dolls’ opens at Pablo Center, runs May 1-4
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Theatre’s final mainstage production of the academic year, “Guys and Dolls,” opens May 1 and runs through May 4 in the RCU Theatre of Pablo Center at the Confluence.
Bringing “Guys and Dolls” — the classic 1950 musical fable of Broadway — to life is no small feat. It takes vision, coordination, creativity and, above all, teamwork.
Under the direction of Dr. Ken Pereira, professor of music, with musical direction by Emily Sternfeld-Dunn, lecturer of music, and choreography by Stephen K. Stone, senior lecturer of dance, the production draws on professional experience and a deep passion for theater. The music comes alive under the baton of student conductor Joey Elliott, under the mentorship of Nobuyoshi Yasuda, professor emeritus of music.
Design elements shine with costumes by Amanda Profaizer, professor of costume design; lighting design by Erin Hisey, assistant professor of scenic and lighting design; and technical direction by James Zwicky, professor of theatre arts. The entire production runs smoothly thanks to the dedication of student stage manager Billy Tensen.
But what truly powers this production is the extraordinary work of Blugold students. From assistant stage managers, costume and lighting crews and set builders to board operators, running crew, ushers and more, students have taken on key roles behind the scenes with skill, creativity and heart.
This season-closing production is a celebration of collaboration — between faculty, professionals and students — who bring Damon Runyon’s vibrant characters and the bustling world of Broadway to the stage.
Tickets are available through the Pablo Center box office.
