Award information: One award of $1,000, renewable for a second year. Renewal is contingent on the student completing 24 credits their first year, including MSE 221, Chem 109, and Phys 231, and maintaining a GPA of at least 3.0.
Deadline: Priority given with December 1 deadline, with applications accepted up to February 1 of each year.
Requirements: The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming or transfer student who has a declared major in materials science and engineering or materials science.
Preference given to: Preference will be given to students in groups traditionally underrepresented in engineering.

Award information: Up to two awards at $3,000 per year, renewable for a second year.
Requirements: The fellowship is available to all pre-MSE, MSE, or Materials Science students who have taken or are currently enrolled in MSE 221, and who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Preference given to: Students currently enrolled in MSE 221.
How to apply: Submit this application form directly to the Materials Science office.

Award information: One award at $500
Requirements: This scholarship will be awarded to an international student majoring in materials science, materials science and engineering, or biomedical engineering. The student must be in good academic standing and have completed MSE 386 or MSCI 384. 

Preference given to: Preference will be given to a student with a higher GPA and/or who is involved in activities such as research, outreach, or cultural exchange.

Award information: One award at $700
Requirements: Given to a Materials Science comprehensive major with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must submit a resume of accomplishments that includes a description of campus involvement and materials science program involvement. An essay describing future career goals is required. Students must have completed a minimum of one MSE or MSCI course numbered 300 or above, or be enrolled in such a course in the semester of application.
Preference given to: Preference will be given to students who have participated in faculty-student undergraduate research, non-traditional or first generation students, and students who demonstrate financial need.

Award information: One award at $1,000 per year ($500 per semester), renewable for a second year.
Requirements: The scholarship is available to all pre-MSE or MSE students who have financial need (as determined by Blugold Central) and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Preference given to: Students with the highest financial need, and those with demonstrated engagement with the MSBME department. Academic performance beyond the minimum GPA may be considered, but is not a primary factor.

Award information: One award at $2,500
Requirements: A student in good standing majoring in Materials Science, Materials Science & Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering with a demonstrated commitment to academic and professional success and demonstrate perseverance when it comes to overcoming challenges. FAFSA-documented need is not required, but should be considered. If not documented, there must be demonstrated anecdotal financial hardship.
Preference given to: A student who identifies as part of one or more underrepresented groups including: female students, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, nonbinary students, first-generation students, or students of a demonstrated disadvantaged background.

Award information: Up to two awards at $100 each
Requirements: The service award is given to up to two junior or senior students demonstrating service to the Materials Science & Biomedical Engineering Department at UW-Eau Claire. Award recipients are evaluated based on participation and leadership in outreach, mentoring, research, and other service to the department, the Materials Science & Engineering Center, or their academic discipline. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 to be eligible, but GPA will not be a primary selection criterion among those who are eligible. Students must submit a resume through the online application process to be considered for the award.

Award information: Up to two awards at $100 each
Deadline: None (recipients selected directly by faculty).
Requirements: The outstanding senior award is given to up to two graduating seniors (defined as graduating no later than December of the following academic year) from within the Materials Science & Biomedical Engineering Department who have records of academic accomplishment and demonstrated passion for their field of study. Award recipients are evaluated on their academic record and their participation in departmental activities. A total cumulative GPA and a major GPA of 3.50 or greater are required.
How to apply: No application is required. MSBME faculty select the recipients of this award from the pool of eligible graduating seniors.

Award information: One award at $1500
Requirements: Junior or senior (60+ credits by the next Fall semester) with a minimum 3.0 GPA and majoring in the physical sciences.
Preference given to: Students from Thorp, WI or Clark County, WI, and those with the highest financial need.
This scholarship can be renewed for two more years provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Award information: Three scholarships of $3,000 are available
Requirements: Science major with financial need who shows academic promise.  Academic promise is defined as clear potential to succeed in a relevant graduate or professional program following graduation and demonstrated accomplishments, leadership, and creativity in the student's chosen field. Must be a sophomore or above (30+ credits) by the next Fall semester.
Preference given to: Students who show academic promise but who may not have a top GPA.

Award information: One award at $4,300
Requirements: Sophomore or above (30+ credits by the next Fall semester) in math or the physical sciences and a GPA of 3.0 or higher and financial need.
Preference given to: Highest GPA and Wisconsin/Minnesota residence.

Award information: Two awards at $1,350
Requirements: Junior or senior (60+ credits by the next Fall semester) with financial need engaged in science research at UWEC, or in a science-related internship. The scholarship is also available to graduating seniors pursuing an advanced degree in the sciences.
Preference given to: Students with a high potential for success as a scientist, with well-defined goals and realistic plans for meeting those goals.

Award information: One award at $2,000
Requirements: Physical or biological science major
Preference given to: Academic merit and research aptitude.  Since this scholarship has no financial need or class standing restrictions, it tends to be quite competitive.

Award information: One award at $2,500
Requirements: Underrepresented junior or senior who is a high academic performer and an outstanding leader. Minimum GPA of 3.5 and full-time status required. 
Preference given to: Student with a high level of academic excellence, community service, campus involvement, and institutional engagement. Financial need may be a consideration.

Award information: One award at $2,800, plus research stipend and supplies/travel support
Eligibility Criteria: The recipient will be an undergraduate student with junior or senior standing at UW-Eau Claire during the award period. The recipient will have conducted outstanding collaborative research or demonstrated the potential for outstanding undergraduate research. Students from all disciplines may apply.

Award information: One annual award of $2,500, plus research stipend and supplies/travel support

Eligibility Criteria: The recipient will be an undergraduate student with junior or senior standing at UW-Eau Claire during the award period. The recipient will have conducted outstanding collaborative research or demonstrated the potential for outstanding undergraduate research. Students from all disciplines may apply. A secondary goal of the donor is to expand the disciplinary background of those receiving research awards. Therefore, the five awards will be made to one science/math student and one non-science student in the College of Arts and Sciences, and one student in each of the other three colleges.
