The diversity of classes offered within the geography department allows students to customize their education based on their interests and career goals in a way that many other programs are not able to. Further, the professors are genuinely interested in helping students succeed, as evidenced by their involvement with student research, professional associations and mentoring.

Supercomputing cluster brings opportunities to Blugolds

A tool to help people. That's how Blugold Matthew DeWitte describes geospatial data. So it's no wonder he is using his undergraduate research project to do just that. Using UW-Eau Claire's supercomputing cluster, Matthew is helping predict floods in the greater Chippewa Valley area as well as helping to detect minerals and objects.

It's a learning experience you won't find elsewhere as an undergraduate student and one of the main reasons Matthew feels prepared to enter his chosen career. Hear more from him on the benefits of having direct access to a supercomputer and how he is using what he learns at UWEC to make a difference.
