Global interdependence makes second language proficiency and cross-cultural understanding essential. Nations and individuals are increasingly linked via media, technology, travel and business.

Students of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Latin American Studies program gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Latin American region, its people, and its cultures.

Students interested in the Latin American Studies major are encouraged to successfully complete high school courses in English, public speaking, world civilization and Spanish.

• Language Skills - Recent events, such as NAFTA, and the significant Hispanic population in the United States will increase the demand for professionals who are proficient in the Spanish language and prepared to work with the people of Latin America in the United States and abroad.
